Blitz is on in California to install solar before Trump-imposed deadline
"If buyers don't have their new solar systems fully installed by Dec. 31, they'll miss a 30% tax credit. That's thanks to this summer's huge tax and spending bill, where the Trump administration opted to kill the tax credit for residential solar installations - it had previously been set to run through 2032. The tax change has prompted a wave of get-it-while-you-can demand for residential solar, but with the quick-turn deadline and various bottlenecks, installers are often having to turn potential customers away."
"Mounting solar panels has gone mainstream in California over the past few decades, with more than 1.9 million households now boasting the tech as of the end of 2024. But that doesn't mean installation is fast. Customers have to wait for installers to secure materials and free up workers, localities to approve their permits and utility companies to connect their systems to the grid."
The 30% residential solar tax credit will end on Dec. 31 after a tax and spending bill eliminated the credit that had been scheduled through 2032. California homeowners are rushing to install systems before the deadline, doubling demand for some installers and creating shortages of panels, basic parts, and labor. Installation timelines are delayed by supply constraints, permit approvals, and utility interconnections. Installers are turning away customers and many projects risk missing the deadline, which would forfeit the tax credit and cost homeowners thousands of dollars.
