"We are very grateful to Paul for his hard work, professionalism and commitment during his time at the club. We thank Paul for his contribution, both on and off the pitch. Torquay United wish Paul every success in his future endeavours. Neil Warnock will take the team for Tuesday night's fixture with Farnborough and an update on interim arrangements will be communicated in due course."
"Wotton admitted Saturday's loss to Chelmsford was 'not acceptable' as his side's title challenge continued to capitulate amid their worst run of results all season. His injury-hit side have conceded 12 goals in their past three matches."
"Warnock, who joined Torquay's board as advisor to their new owners in May 2024, has not managed a club since leaving Aberdeen earlier that year. The 77-year-old has managed more games than any other boss in English league football and his eight promotions is the most ever achieved."
Torquay United dismissed manager Paul Wotton following Saturday's 5-0 home loss to Chelmsford City. The defeat concluded a five-game winless streak that saw the club fall from top of the National League South with a three-point lead to fourth place, ten points behind new leaders Dorking Wanderers. Wotton, 48, had managed the club since summer 2024 and previously led them to near-title success last season. The injury-affected squad conceded 12 goals across their last three matches. Neil Warnock, 77, a former Torquay manager and current board advisor, assumes temporary control for Tuesday's fixture against Farnborough. Warnock holds records for most managerial games and eight promotions in English league football.
