Blackburn Rovers has officially appointed Valerien Ismael as their new head coach, signing him to a long-term contract lasting until June 2028. He succeeds John Eustace, who departed to take up a position at Derby County. Ismael brings experience from managing teams such as Barnsley and Watford in the Championship. His notable achievement was leading Barnsley to the play-offs in his first season. As Blackburn currently sits in sixth place with 12 games remaining, Ismael's task will be to push the team towards playoff contention, starting with his debut against Norwich City.
"We were hugely impressed with Valerien throughout what was a rigorous recruitment process. He knows the Championship extremely well and what it takes to finish in the play-offs."
"He has played and managed in some of the biggest environments across Europe and has all the credentials to have a successful spell with us over the coming years."
