"I know I'm at an age where people don't normally get managerial jobs, but I've enjoyed this morning like I've been here all year. It's lovely to be back with the players, they keep you young."
"It's a surprise for me to be here today, I thought I would have been at Tottenham or Forest or somewhere like that. I could do a better job, but they never asked me."
"Warnock, who has managed a record 1,626 games in professional football in England, and led sides to promotion a record eight times, knows all about the Torquay squad. The former EFL club, who slipped out of the league in 2014, are in their third season in the sixth tier."
Neil Warnock, one of English football's most decorated managers with 1,626 professional games managed and eight promotion achievements, has returned to Torquay United as interim manager after a 33-year absence. At 77 years old, Warnock replaces Paul Wotton, who was sacked following a five-game winless streak that saw Torquay drop from first place to fourth. The former EFL club, relegated to the sixth tier in 2014, has been Warnock's focus since he joined as an advisor when the club emerged from administration in summer 2024. Warnock expresses enthusiasm about working with the players and believes he can help the Gulls achieve promotion despite his age.
