Paris St-Germain (PSG) triumphed in the Champions League final, overpowering Inter Milan 5-0. This win marks PSG's first title in the tournament's history, making them the first French club to claim the trophy since Marseille in 1993. The club's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, emphasized the hard work behind this achievement, with an aim to build a brighter future. Despite their financial strength, critics questioned the competitiveness of the league. The new format of the Champions League includes 36 teams, providing fans with more frequent high-stakes matches, following the collapse of the proposed European Super League.
"The objective now is to win again. It has taken 14 years of hard work but we are building something for the future," said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
"It's romantic in the sense they won the Champions League for the first time and the football was absolutely brilliant. But from a financial point of view, you would expect them to be there or thereabouts," noted football finance expert Kieran Maguire.
