"For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner. This week, we consider performances from Feb. 9-14 . Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting. Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted. Scroll to the bottom for the poll."
"Hania Bowes, San Ramon Valley basketball: The junior scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead all scorers as SRV beat Carondelet 70-49 to win the East Bay Athletic League championship. She added two rebounds and a pair of assists. Kendall Koury, St. Francis soccer: The junior defender laid in a perfect cross from out wide to assist Maya Meltz's game-winning goal and helped backstop St. Francis' defense as the Lancers beat St. Ignatius 2-0 in a key West Catholic Athletic League clash."
"Kaylee Kwok, Monta Vista basketball: Kwok led all scorers with 18 points as Monta Vista upset Los Gatos on its home floor in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division stunner. Andrea Martin, Piedmont basketball: Martin, a sophomore, led all scorers with 27 points and 13 rebounds as Piedmont beat Alameda to continue its dominance in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division action."
A weekly Athlete of the Week poll covers performances from Feb. 9–14 and invites reader voting with polls closing at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Multiple votes are allowed until the deadline, but bots or other artificial methods are prohibited; votes by email and votes after the deadline are not counted. Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print sports sections of the Mercury News and East Bay Times. Nominations are accepted via highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com until 11 a.m. each Monday, and submitted stats from coaches or team statisticians are reviewed. Nominees include high school basketball and soccer players who delivered key scoring, assists, rebounds, and championship-clinching performances.
