Teachers are often viewed as equals to students, leading to a sense of entitlement among students regarding classroom behavior. Many people misunderstand the role of teachers, believing they have an easy job with plenty of breaks. In reality, teachers require extensive training and work beyond normal school hours, often without recognition. Public school funding cuts could have severe long-term effects on student literacy. Emergency staffing issues in special education further complicate teaching environments, highlighting ongoing challenges in the profession.
Teachers have extensive education, training, and knowledge in their content areas. We have to be experts and stay students ourselves to be effective educators. But we are treated largely as if we are little more than babysitters.
People think teachers work 9-3:30 a.m. and get a ton of vacation time. I have never worked those hours in my teaching career! I work 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in school and then around two hours a night.
