Teacher struck off after explicit' sexual conversations with pupils
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"A teacher has been struck off after allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conversations with children at a secondary school in Wigan just two months after starting the job. Kathryn Matthews, 43, who had been teaching English at the Westleigh School in Greater Manchester, held lengthy conversations in class with pupils which included discussions about sex toys and orgasms, a panel heard. The allegations came to light after two pupils mentioned the conversation to another member of staff."
The Independent emphasizes on-the-ground reporting across topics such as reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech, and seeks donations to fund reporters while keeping content free of paywalls. The outlet cites investigative work including PAC financial investigations and documentaries highlighting American women fighting for reproductive rights. In a separate case, Kathryn Matthews, 43, an English teacher at Westleigh School in Greater Manchester, reportedly held lengthy in-class conversations with pupils that included discussions of sex toys and orgasms. A Teaching Regulation Agency panel deemed the conduct extremely serious and issued a prohibition banning her from teaching for at least two years.
