Bernard Aquilina, 35, a computer science teacher at Cove Secondary School in Hampshire, was banned from teaching in England after a conduct panel found him guilty of unacceptable professional conduct. The panel concluded he slapped a student on the cheek after the pupil laughed at a classmate who could not answer a question. Eight students provided largely consistent statements describing the incident, including one account that Mr Aquilina approached, clapped, said 'well done', and then slapped the pupil. He was removed from the school in May 2024. The student who was hit reported they laughed because another pupil was struggling to answer.
