On the first day of school SFUSD announced campuses were fully staffed, yet Mission Education Center had a vacant principal role, three unfilled classroom teacher positions, and multiple paraeducator openings. Parents reported substitutes filling roles without necessary early education credentials and without Spanish proficiency needed for immersion classes. Parents observed children left alone in bathrooms and hallways and said they stepped in to lead circle time for TK students. A coalition of parents sent a letter raising urgent safety concerns and stated that trust in the district had been broken.
