Saoirse Hanley: From salary expectations to understanding pensions, here are five financial lessons I wish we learnt at school
"The Irish educational system is a great one, but there are some gaps in the areas of 'real life' topics I am not one to give out about the Irish educational system. Having attended Irish-language schools from junior infants to Leaving Certificate, I finished school in 2015 feeling like an academically well-rounded young adult. I was fluent in various languages, had a good handle on geographical concepts and musical specifics, and while my grasp on some mathematical intricacies could have been better, that was a personal skills issue rather than a teaching one."

Strong academic foundations were formed through attendance at Irish-language schools from junior infants through the Leaving Certificate, culminating in finishing school in 2015 with a well-rounded academic profile. Fluency in multiple languages and a solid grasp of geographical concepts and musical specifics were achieved. Mathematical intricacies posed a personal challenge rather than reflecting instructional shortcomings. Despite academic strengths, gaps exist in education regarding practical 'real life' topics. The educational system's overall quality is affirmed, but additional emphasis on everyday skills and applied knowledge would better prepare students for post-school life.
