Los Gatos high school students can enroll in career tech classes

"Registration for the 2026-27 school year at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) center opens on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Nearly 1,500 students in grades 10-12 from over 45 schools in Santa Clara County enroll each year, gaining opportunities to earn college credit; score industry certifications; gain real-world experience through internships, pre-apprenticeship and projects; and advance skills for higher education or careers after graduation."

"New courses this term include an AI engineering course and a pre-apprenticeship in metals technology. Students in the former course will design intelligent systems, apply Python coding and use machine learning to solve real-world challenges. Students enrolled in the metals technology course will have access to a newly approved Field Ironworkers Pre-Apprenticeship program, authorized by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards."

SVCTE accepts Santa Clara County students and provides free transportation to and from schools in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District. Students register through their home high school counselor. New offerings include an AI engineering course teaching Python and machine learning and a metals technology pre-apprenticeship affiliated with the Field Ironworkers program. Los Gatos Library will host a cookbook club on March 26 as part of Silicon Valley Reads’ Bridges to Belonging theme, inviting children and teenagers to prepare comfort food, explore foods from different cultures, and participate in STEAM sessions with LEGO challenges.
