Kerry students go head-to-head in debating final for honour of lifting perpetual trophy
Students from Tarbert Comprehensive and Causeway Comprehensive debated at Listowel Community Centre in a final debate initiative focused on reducing harmful alcohol use and its impacts. Causeway presented the motion, “Are Parents Responsible for Children's Drinking Habits?”, while Tarbert opposed it. Each team delivered persuasive points and rebuttals within a set time before judges Garda Inspector Tim O'Keeffe, Evelyn Landers from the HSE, and The Kerryman reporter Sinead Kelleher. More than 50 second year students attended and cheered for their schools. Tarbert won by a small margin and received the Perpetual Cup, while all competitors received a token gift. Local alcohol-related services were also highlighted as part of the WHO SAFER initiative.
