Maeve Ní Chonraoi, a Coláiste Íde pupil from Dingle, was named the Munster winner of the Aiste an Oireachtas essay competition. Her winning work focused on the theme “Is AI a threat to Democracy?” and encouraged young people to reflect on the importance of democracy. She was selected by an expert panel of judges as one of the prize winners from over one thousand entrants. She received a certificate and €5,000 in prize money at Leinster House. The presentation included competition patron Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD and senator Rónán Mullen, who devised the competition in 2022. Seán Ó Fearghaíl said greater engagement by young people with the political system is vital for democracy and for overcoming challenges at home and abroad.
