Within days of Class 12 results, students reported marking discrepancies linked to CBSE’s new on-screen marking (OSM) system. CBSE reported receiving requests for 1.1 million answer sheet copies from over 400,000 students to crosscheck results. At least 1.7 million students took the exams that determine university admissions. OSM scans physical answer sheets, uploads them to an online portal for teacher evaluation, and uses software to calculate total marks. Students reported incomplete scans, missing pages, incorrect marking, blurry images, and mismatched answer sheets. Geetu Moza said her daughter lost at least 30 marks despite matching official answers, and Vedant Srivastava said the physics answer sheet he received after requesting it was not his and contained answers he had not written.
"In the new system, physical copies of answer sheets are scanned and uploaded to an online portal for teachers to evaluate, with a software then calculating the total mark."
