The Carol Pino Learning Farm, the first official learning farm in New York City, opened in Brooklyn after a decade-long effort and a $16 million investment. Located on a two-acre site in Southeast Brooklyn, the farm features an outdoor kitchen, greenhouse, weather station, fruit orchard, and various gardens. The initiative honors Carol Pino, a community advocate and P.S. 312 parent coordinator who envisioned the transformation of the lot into an educational space. Community leaders and officials participated in the opening, underscoring the importance of collaboration and advocacy in education.
"We end the day with the kids reflecting on having visited us and to think of what they can advocate for in their own community," Camillieri said. "They can do something in the spirit of Carol when they leave."
"We're incredibly proud of what we've built and profoundly grateful for the support of our partners, team, families, local leaders, and, most importantly, Carol Pino, who is shining down on us today," Erica DiGiovanna said.
