Austin Independent School District has achieved modest improvements in accountability ratings, increasing the number of A-rated schools from 16 to 22 while reducing F-rated campuses from 29 to 23. Despite this progress, TEA Commissioner Mike Morath criticized the district for having a high number of chronically underperforming campuses. AISD reported that 69 of its 116 campuses experienced growth, and 35 improved their letter grades. Continuous turnaround plans are in place for schools with consecutive failing grades as they aim to fulfill their commitment to student success.
Segura said, "There's obviously a lot of work to get to do with the number of D's and F's that we have, but when you look at the trend, it's trending in the right direction."
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath emphasized, "Austin ISD has an extremely high number of chronically underperforming campuses. That is a very significant problem, and that is a problem that doesn't just happen on its own."
AISD spokesperson Cristina Nguyen stated, "These improvements reflect the dedication of our students, the tireless commitment of our teachers and staff and the steady focus we have placed on systemwide improvement."
Nguyen added, "Now we need to accelerate that movement to ensure every student realizes their highest potential."
