Golden Gate Fields could soon turn into a public park
"Golden Gate Fields offers a truly generational opportunity to reimagine a world-class bayside park for the Bay Area. We have the chance to expand shoreline access, restore vital ecosystems, and create a place where hundreds of thousands of residents can connect with the outdoors."
"The Trust for Public Land has acquired more than 5 million acres of land across the country for parks and other public uses, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing public spaces."
The Golden Gate Fields horse racing track, closed in 2024, is set to become a public park following an agreement by the Trust for Public Land. The 161-acre site, located on the Berkeley-Albany border, will be transferred to the East Bay Regional Park District. This initiative aims to expand shoreline access, restore ecosystems, and provide outdoor spaces for residents. The Trust for Public Land has not disclosed the sale price but is reported to have agreed to pay $175 million for the property, which will involve demolishing existing structures.
