Bay Area art school closures continue as Contra Costa School of Performing Arts takes its curtain call
Briefly

The Contra Costa School of Performing Arts will cease operations in June due to financial issues stemming from increasing facility costs and dwindling student enrollment. Established nearly a decade ago, the school provided free project-based arts education but faced an unsustainable future. The building is now up for sale, with plans in the community for mixed-use development to attract families and professionals. Heather Vega, chair of the school's governing board, cited lingering impacts from COVID as a critical factor in the decision to close.
"Unfortunately, just like so many others, we were hit very hard after COVID for a variety of things, and we just weren't in a position to make it work financially anymore."
"Our enrollment has struggled, and like many single-site schools, we have difficulty coping with financial challenges and maintaining sustainable operations."
