This East Bay city is getting a big, new grocery store
"I proudly welcome Sprouts Farmers Market to downtown San Leandro,"
"Sprouts strengthens our community by creating local jobs, supporting food access for families, and providing fresh, healthy options that reflect our city's commitment to wellness and sustainability."
"I'm so sick of Safeway that I want to scream!"
"Sprouts will already be a game changer for the area. I'm still daydreaming that one day Trader Joe's or Whole Foods will move in, but I'll also settle for an Aldi's ..."
Sprouts Farmers Market will open Friday at 1188 E. 14th St. in downtown San Leandro at the base of the Centro Callan apartment complex. The store will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The layout emphasizes a central produce display and a focus on organic, gluten-free, keto, and non-GMO items. Progressive Grocer named Sprouts retailer of the year in 2024 for curation and customer experience. The new location joins about a dozen Bay Area Sprouts and will compete with nearby Safeway stores to the north and south. An opening weekend features an outdoor pop-up with music, tastings, giveaways, games, and goodie bags for early shoppers.
