Oakland Fire Stations Saved - San Francisco Bay Times
Briefly

The City of Oakland has successfully reversed planned fire station closures due to community advocacy and newly identified funds, ensuring public safety for all residents. Elected officials and community members united to address concerns regarding safety amidst budget shortfalls. As part of these efforts, Oakland secured a $2.6 million reimbursement from event revenues, which facilitated reopening previously closed fire stations and maintaining additional ones scheduled for closure. This indicates a strong commitment to core municipal services despite economic challenges.
This reversal, made possible by newly identified funds and cost-saving measures, highlights the interconnectedness of every part of the Oakland community and every aspect of life.
The City of Oakland's priority is the safety and well being of all its residents, businesses, and visitors. Dedicated effort is needed to protect vital services.
The combination of Council action and administrative action now means that the previously closed fire stations will reopen, and the four additional fire stations will remain open.
Recently, in my role as one of Oakland's representatives on the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority (OACCA), I successfully obtained approval to reimburse the City of Oakland $2.6 million.
