Caspers hot dog shop to close in Richmond
"Caspers Hot Dogs, as it's long been known throughout the East Bay, is losing its Richmond location. But the shop will continue to serve hot dogs under a new brand, according to Richmond Caspers worker Gio Flores. The last day for Caspers in Richmond will be May 16, according to Flores. The shop has been bought by another owner and is expected to be renamed Corky's Famous Hot Dogs, he says."
"The Richmond location dates back to 1947, nearly 80 years. The East Bay chain traces its roots to the 1920s, when Kasper Koojoolian, an Armenian immigrant, left Chicago for the warmer climate and business opportunities of California. He opened his first hot dog shop in Oakland as Casper's. He and his brother Paul Koojoolian broke away and began operating a similar business under the name the Kasper's, while the remaining business partners branched out and expanded the Caspers brand."
"The chain's 80-year-old Hayward location closed in 2024, following the closure of its 40-year-old Walnut Creek location in 2023. The last Kasper's locations in Concord and Oakland shut down in 2025. Additional Caspers locations remain in operation in Pleasant Hill, Dublin, Hayward and Oakland. Details: Open 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturdays at 2530 Macdonald Ave., Richmond; caspershotdogs.com"
