"We just want everybody to come represent,"
"This is more of an exhibit, just showing off what you have and introducing our cultures to other people."
Bay Area African Restaurant Week will run Sept. 12-21 with a kickoff party on Friday, Sept. 12 at Parliament. The inaugural festival closed with more than 400 attendees at an Oakland nightclub where DJs played AfroBeats and vendors served suya skewers, jollof rice and whole grilled fish. JayBaba's Kitchen, a Ghanaian American pop-up, proved highly popular and aims to showcase the luxury and flavor of Ghanaian cooking. Vendors and competitors emphasize collaboration rather than rivalry, framing the week as an exhibit to represent and introduce African diaspora cultures to broader audiences.
