A ridge of high pressure is creating warm temperatures and dry wind conditions in the North and East Bay regions, increasing the risk of grass fires. The National Weather Service has indicated that elevated fire threats will affect areas above 1,500 feet, with humidity levels dropping to 25-35% and gusts reaching 25-35 mph. A recent grass fire in Brentwood further underscores these concerns, although it was largely contained. Although temperatures are expected to cool slightly mid-week, dry conditions persist, prompting caution ahead of the approaching fire season.
The dry winds combined with lower humidity levels are creating an elevated fire threat across the North Bay and East Bay regions, particularly above 1,500 feet.
Currently, as we transition between seasons, we recognize that while we havenât officially entered fire season, conditions are rapidly becoming conducive to grass fires.
The National Weather Service advises that winds might gust as high as 35 mph, intensifying the risk of wildfires in the already dry landscape.
While temperatures are set to rise into the low-80s in parts of the Bay Area, the cooler conditions expected later this week should help mitigate fire risks.
