"For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner. Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting."
"Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections. Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com. We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday."

Moses Mendoza, Gilroy wrestling: Mendoza won the 138-pound state title after beating Buchanan's CJ Huerta, earning a technical fall in the third period with a score of 24-8."
A weekly Athlete of the Week poll features outstanding Bay Area high school performances from February 23-28. Readers vote for the top performer among nominated candidates, with polls closing at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Winners are announced each Friday in the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections. Nominations are accepted until 11 a.m. Mondays at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com. This week's nominees include basketball players from multiple schools who led their teams to CCS and NCS championship victories, a soccer player who scored a game-winning goal, and a wrestler who won a state title. Voters may submit multiple votes using legitimate methods only.
