Soaked Oakland braces for more rain and dangerous winds
"This was just the teaser."
"There's not going to be any room at the inn, to use a Christmas pun," he said. "It's all going to be runoff."
Multiple winter storms will impact the East Bay from Monday through Friday, with the Oakland and Berkeley hills already recording 2.5 inches of rain since Sunday. A stronger area of low pressure is expected late Tuesday night, producing severe thunderstorms, wind gusts over 50 mph in some locations, and intense rainfall rates that could drop up to 1.5 inches in an hour. Total hill accumulations near 2 inches by Christmas morning are likely, with higher amounts in the hills than flatlands. Saturated soils will generate high runoff, increasing flash-flood risk in creeks, storm drains, and flood-prone areas. A flood watch covers the Bay Area and Central Coast through Friday.
