Oakland to lose a longtime Lakeshore institution
"Thanks to the tipster that let Nosh know that Signal Coffee located in the bottom floor off the Tribune Tower has a sign posted in the window announcing a temporary closure. "Due to continuing staffing shortages at this location, Signal at Tribune will be closed until further notice while we group," the note read in part. The cafe opened in the tower in April. Signal's cafes in Berkeley, Alameda and San Francisco remain open."
"Top Dog, the Bay's classic outpost for juicy hot links, frankfurters and chicken apple sausages, is counting down its final days in Oakland. Owners Renie and Richard Riemann had decided not to renew their lease after a slew of robberies and financial uncertainty, but said that after business picked back up again, they'd decided to stick around."
Signal Coffee's Tribune Tower cafe at 411 13th St. in Oakland posted a notice announcing a temporary closure due to continuing staffing shortages while the location regroups. The cafe opened in the tower in April, and Signal's other locations in Berkeley, Alameda and San Francisco remain open. Top Dog on Lakeshore Ave., known for hot links, frankfurters and chicken apple sausages, faces closure after the building changed ownership and a new lease was not offered. Owners had considered leaving earlier after robberies and financial uncertainty but had stayed when business recovered. No firm closing date has been announced for the Lakeshore location at 3272 Lakeshore Ave.
