Oakland man gets 10 years for human trafficking of teen girl
Briefly

Algernon Steen, 32, was sentenced to 10 years for human trafficking and firearm possession. He pleaded no contest in April after being charged with recruiting a 14-year-old girl into prostitution. The girl testified, revealing the trauma of her experience while living with Steen. Despite a GPS monitor, Steen was arrested for gun possession after allegedly assaulting a sex worker. He may serve only half his sentence for good behavior, and two co-defendants were also involved, with one case dismissed by prosecutors.
The girl took the stand at Steen's preliminary hearing and described her former trafficker as a wonderful person, but said she left the experience feeling horrible.
'You feel like you don't got nobody. Like it is just you. You never know what's going to happen to you,' the girl testified.
