The US Air Force bombed Toyokawa on Aug. 7, 1945, dropping 813 tons of explosives which killed around 2,500 citizens, including numerous schoolchildren and women. Additionally, starting Aug. 1, the City of Cupertino will post signage at pickleball courts requesting the use of quieter paddles and balls during early morning and evening hours to reduce noise while maintaining community recreational activities.
On Aug. 6, Cupertino's Memorial Park will host a ceremony to honor victims of the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal bombing, commemorating 80 years of peace since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The bombing on Aug. 7, 1945, by the US Air Force targeted Toyokawa, dropping 813 tons of explosives that resulted in the deaths of about 2,500 citizens, many of whom were children and young women.
To address noise concerns related to pickleball, the City of Cupertino will implement signage requesting quiet paddles and balls during designated hours to help maintain neighborhood tranquility.
The city remains dedicated to balancing community recreation with neighborhood peace and is exploring further long-term solutions for noise reduction related to pickleball.
