Civic Center Park now almost entirely fenced off
Briefly

Berkeley has recently expanded fencing around Civic Center Park, displacing camp residents and igniting debates about how to handle homelessness. Following a reported incident in January, parents from nearby Berkeley High School demanded action to clear the area, though the suspect was not a resident of the park. While the city’s Homeless Response Team found housing for 16 individuals, advocates argue that the solutions provided have not been adequate, criticizing what they view as heavy-handed policies that fail to address the needs of the unhoused community adequately.

In a newsletter Thursday, Tregub wrote that the western part of the park needs to be temporarily fenced off to undergo needed rehabilitation.
