Berkeley to start charging to park at 3 lots in Marina's South Cove
Briefly

The Berkeley City Council approved new parking fees for three lots at the Marina, set to begin on January 1. The fees will be $1 per hour or $6 per day. An annual pass will be available for $500. This initiative aims to support the Marina Fund, which oversees maintenance and recreational services. Despite implementing parking fees, 1,048 spots will remain free. The city expects to generate $91,000 in the first year while anticipating annual revenues of $182,500 thereafter. Additional increases were also approved for residential parking permits to address a structural deficit in the program.
"The new charges—$1 per hour or $6 per day—will be implemented at the South Cove East, South Cove West and J/K lots starting January 1 next year."
"City officials say the fees are part of a broader plan to stabilize the ailing Marina Fund, which supports dock maintenance, roads, restrooms and public recreation programming."
