The Berkeley Free Clinic is relocating to the Ann Chandler Public Health Center on University Avenue, previously the site of the city's public health avenues. This move marks a significant transition from its long-time home at Trinity United Methodist Church. Opening in June, the clinic will provide essential services alongside LifeLong Medical Care, which targets homelessness. This partnership aims to revive community health services in a building that has remained unused since late 2020 due to reduced demand for care. Berkeley Free Clinic will pay $2,000 monthly in rent to the city, providing valuable health supports.
"We’ll be going in after them and doing our general public services... It fits really well with us," said Scott Carroll, a longtime Berkeley Free Clinic volunteer.
The Ann Chandler center had been empty since December 2020 as the city sought a new community partner to take over the space.
