Second company set to deploy cameras to check if customers are putting waste in correct bins

Irish waste companies are rolling out bin-imaging systems that photograph household bin contents to identify sorting mistakes and remind residents to properly sort waste. Panda trialled the system with 52,000 customers and reported fewer than 0.05% of customers raised issues, with the company addressing each concern. Greyhound has followed Panda in adopting the cleaner bin imaging technology and other firms are monitoring its performance for potential future adoption. The technology aims to reduce contamination of recyclables and improve recycling rates amid rising waste volumes. Privacy concerns have been voiced and calls for regulation of the sector have increased.
