Researchers File Lawsuit Against Trump for Gutting IES
Briefly

The Trump administration's significant cuts to the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) are facing a lawsuit from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness (SREE). The cuts, which include nearly $900 million in contracts and the firing of over 80% of IES staff, are deemed "unlawful" and threaten vital educational research. AERA executive director Felice J. Levine emphasized that these actions undermine essential studies and evidence-based findings. The organizations are seeking reinstatement of contracts, preservation of crucial data, and restoration of staff roles critical to IES functions.
Never before have there been such brazen attacks on education science, data, and research. Without an IES and the federal education statistical agency it houses, the studies and evidence-based findings produced by our members are gravely undermined.
This administration's repeated assault of the education system in this country threatens educators, students and communities across our country.
