SoulCycle cofounder sells Peoplehood to WeightWatchers
Briefly

Peoplehood, founded by SoulCycle cofounders Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler, began as a community-driven platform for relationship enhancement. Recently, it has pivoted to create support groups focused on GLP-1 medications. The company is now shutting down, with its assets acquired by WeightWatchers, which is redefining its strategic direction following its emergence from bankruptcy. WeightWatchers aims to leverage Peoplehood's technology and community insights, bringing Julie Rice on board to lead this initiative, while Elizabeth Cutler will not join the new venture. WeightWatchers is emphasizing community in its new offerings, including menopause support.
"Community is what has underpinned this business throughout and it is as important, if not more important today than it's ever been," says WeightWatchers CEO Tara Comonte.
"People enjoyed coming to the community for other reasons- 'We tried Peoplehood, we tried couplehood, we tried motherhood, we tried singlehood,' Rice says- but they didn't find a solid market fit until we focused on GLP-1 support groups."
Peoplehood, originally designed as a relationship enhancement platform, shifted to becoming support groups for GLP-1 medication users, showcasing its adaptable business model.
WeightWatchers has transformed its strategic direction by acquiring Peoplehood's assets, focusing on community-driven support solutions in the health and wellness space.
