An outage affecting Shopify Admin on Cyber Monday prevented many merchants from accessing the Shopify interface while customers could still reach storefronts. Shopify acknowledged the issue and directed affected users to its status page while working on a fix. DownDetector logged over 4,000 reports in the United States and similar numbers in the United Kingdom on December 1. Shopify serves over five million customers and processed more than $300 billion in transactions in 2024 per SEC data. Major brands such as PepsiCo, Kraft, Heinz, Whole Foods, and Red Bull use Shopify. Social media users expressed anger and frustration.
