Ralph Lauren's new AI app is paving the way for a shopping revolution
""I'm looking for a black cardigan for the fall,""
""I'm moderating a panel at a big conference and I have no idea what to wear.""
""We're trying to recreate the experience of working with a well-trained Ralph Lauren salesperson," says David Lauren, chief branding and innovation officer at Ralph Lauren, and son of the founder."
""We've taken all of our own best practices and built them into the AI.""
In the early 2000s, fashion brands uploaded inventory online and relied on customers to sift through products. Two decades later, core e-commerce still often requires endless scrolling. AI is poised to change online shopping as consumers increasingly use chatbots and shopping-specific platforms. Ralph Lauren launched Ask Ralph, an AI stylist within its mobile app built in partnership with Microsoft. Users describe specific or open-ended needs and receive fully styled looks from the current collection that can be purchased immediately. The AI adapts to preferences during the interaction and encodes the brand's in-store best practices to replicate a trained salesperson experience.
