A 24-year-old Queensland woman joined Depop to sell a $35 dress and accepted a buyer's offer. The buyer requested a video via Instagram, sent a screenshot claiming payment plus $10 postage, and supplied a link instructing her to "follow the instructions on the site to get the money." The link prompted confirmation of bank card details in what appeared to be PayPal. After returning to Depop she noticed the item was not marked sold. She watched as $13,000 moved from her savings to her card and later lost about $950 before the bank blocked her card. Depop acknowledged industry-wide scam attempts.
"Usually, I am pretty onto it and I have helped other friends avoid scams," she said. "For it to happen to me ... this situation got me off guard."

"After you receive the money you will be contacted by the delivery service and you yourself will appoint the day and time when the courier should arrive," the message said.
