The invitee got a limited Prime account with the free two-day shipping perk. Prime Invitee stopped taking new enrollees in 2015 - but legacy users have been able to continue to enjoy the perk."
"Prime Invitee stopped taking new enrollees in 2015 - but legacy users have been able to continue to enjoy the perk. The Invitee program is ending Oct. 1. Taking its place - for the estimated 240 million Prime subscribers worldwide, more than 180 million in the U.S. alone - is the Amazon Family program, where shipping and other benefits can be shared as long as the members live at the same address."
Amazon is discontinuing the Prime Invitee program on Oct. 1 and replacing it with Amazon Family, which limits shared Prime benefits to people living at the same address. Prime Invitee began in 2009 and allowed a Prime member to share two-day shipping with one adult at a different address; new enrollments ended in 2015 but legacy users retained the perk. Amazon Family permits sharing of shipping and other benefits with one adult household member and sharing of Prime Video and other digital content with up to four children in the household. The change affects roughly 240 million global Prime subscribers and may raise costs.
