eBay seller lists $10K shipping fee on $20 kitchen tool citing 'new tariffs on US imports'
"Michel searched on eBay and found an item for $20.99. He added it to his cart -- and could not believe his eyes. "Ahhhh!!!!!" Michel gasped. "I did not order it!" Michel was about to click 'buy now' but decided to add it to his cart first. Thank God he did. Otherwise his careful eye may not have spotted a $10,000 shipping fee in small print at the bottom of the page."
"" Due to... force of new tariffs on imports into the United States and the lack of support from your country's customs authorities, we are unable to ship to your address. The shipping cost indicated is purely symbolic, as eBay does not allow us to remove the United States from the list of countries available for the sale of our items."
A Redwood City shopper searching for a kitchen appliance part found a $20.99 eBay listing that displayed a $10,000 shipping fee in small print after adding the item to his cart. The buyer nearly clicked "buy now" before noticing the charge and a notice about import fees payable to the shipping carrier prior to delivery. The seller, PG Service, attributed the shipping issue to new tariffs and limited customs support, saying the displayed shipping cost was symbolic because eBay would not allow removal of the United States from the list of available shipping destinations.
