eBay has agreed to purchase Depop from Etsy for about $1.2bn in cash. The acquisition aims to help eBay capture a younger demographic interested in secondhand fashion. Depop will retain its name, brand, platform and culture and was founded in 2011. As of 31 December 2025 Depop had 7 million active buyers, nearly 90% under 34, and more than 3 million active sellers. Etsy bought Depop for $1.6bn in 2021 but later reversed its House of Brands strategy and is selling non-core marketplaces. The boards have unanimously approved the deal, expected to close in the second quarter, and eBay intends to pay cash.
