"Ama is a huge step for Pearl & Law Hospitality, run by husband and wife team Nyacko Pearl Perry and Biplaw Ra (who is Nepalese). The name of the restaurant means "mother" in Nepalese, and the restaurant is an homage to those who cook and care for people. It's also a reference to Rai's mother, Saraswati, who is a prep cook at Comfort Kitchen and takes care of the restaurant team and her family in equal measure."
""Very often, mothers are not acknowledged, and caregivers don't get seen and acknowledged. How they contribute can be taken for granted," says Perry. "I think the same is true with hospitality and industries that are more centered around caregiving." She is also a mother herself; she gave birth to her and Rai's son just three months before Comfort Kitchen opened in 2023."
"Along those lines, many of Ama's dishes are inspired by recipes from staff members' family members. There will be a whole section for dinner devoted to Saraswati, whose cooking nursed Perry back to health after she gave birth. Perry describes one chicken and broth soup flavored with coriander, cardamom, and other subtle spices that she ate for months on end. That soup will be on the menu."
Ama will open in January 2026 at the Atlas Hotel in Allston, 40 Western Avenue. The restaurant is owned by Pearl & Law Hospitality, led by Nyacko Pearl Perry and Biplaw Ra. The name Ama means 'mother' in Nepalese and honors mothers and caregivers, including Ra's mother, Saraswati, a prep cook at Comfort Kitchen. Menus will draw from ingredients of the African diaspora and global flavors, featuring staples such as okra, cassava, lentils, and parsnips. Many dishes are inspired by staff family recipes, and a dinner section will highlight Saraswati's chicken and broth soup flavored with coriander, cardamom, and other spices. Shelley Nason is the culinary director.
