An elephant was tranquilized after charging into a crowd during the annual Ratha Yatra festival in India. Participation included 18 elephants, with one male who broke free and startled the audience, leading to injuries among bystanders. Officials, in adherence to safety protocols, utilized two female elephants to help peacefully redirect the male. Thankfully, no serious injuries arose, and the festival continued after the disturbance. Ratha Yatra, also recognized as the Festival of Chariots, features deities being paraded from Jagannatha Temple to Gundica Temple.
The elephant broke free from his handlers after becoming spooked, charging into a crowd and running into a railing before being calmed down.
RK Sahu mentioned that the strategy involved using two female elephants to gently herd the male back to safety, adhering to the safety protocols.
