""The digital nomad phenomenon has evolved from a niche lifestyle choice to a mainstream economic driver," Laura Madrid Sartorett, the lead researcher at Global Citizen Solutions' Intelligence Unit, said in a statement shared with T+L. In fact, the report looked at digital nomad visa programs in 64 different countries and found 91 percent of nomad programs have been launched since 2020."
India ranks as the most affordable destination for digital nomads, with low costs across housing, groceries, transportation, and essential living expenses. Cost comparisons incorporated co-working and hot-desk fees alongside everyday living expenses. Delhi and Mumbai offer vibrant culture and affordability, while Goa attracts with beaches, UNESCO churches, and Portuguese-influenced cuisine. Ecuador, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Colombia followed India among the most affordable countries. Iceland and Norway scored high on quality-of-life metrics but remained costly for remote work. The Netherlands topped quality-of-life measures, combining public infrastructure, safety, and cultural appeal. Program distribution favored the Americas (36%), Europe (33%), and Asia (9%).
