On the other hand, AI Overviews in the regular search results are... less useful. Launched in May 2024, AI Overviews synthesize real-language answers to search queries based on information from sites in Google's search results. While AI Overviews have improved after a , they still make too many mistakes for me."
"If, like me, you find yourself wishing for the Google searches of old where you'd encounter a list of links, I have good news. When Google launched AI Overviews, it also released a search filter called "Web" that provides only links to websites in results. With a few minutes work, it's easy to make that new Web filter your default for Google search results."
AI Overviews launched in May 2024 and synthesize natural-language answers to queries using information from indexed websites. AI Overviews have improved but still produce frequent errors that require users to verify primary sources. Many users prefer lists of relevant website links rather than summaries that may be inaccurate. Google offers a Web filter that returns only text-based links and suppresses AI summaries, videos, and knowledge panels. The Web filter appears below the search box among other filters like News, Images and Videos and may be hidden under the More menu. Browser settings can be adjusted to make the Web filter the default on Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.
