In recent versions of Windows 11, opening one of the known folders in File Explorer displays a prominent "Start backup" button like the one shown here. And there are other places in Windows where you might be asked if you want to back up your files."
Windows can automatically move local known folders and user files into OneDrive during initial setup, feature updates, or when prompts are clicked. Some prompts are small or ambiguous, such as a tiny blue link reading "Only save files to this PC," and beginning with Windows 11 24H2 that option may disappear when signing in with a Microsoft account. Clicking the OneDrive icon or a prominent "Start backup" button in File Explorer can enable relocation with no clear confirmation. Multiple places in Windows invite users to "back up" files, but the feature often shifts file locations rather than merely creating backup copies.
