Digital footprints are extensive, yet most individuals do not have plans for their digital legacy after passing. Studies indicate that the average user has over 150 online accounts, and fewer than 15% of popular platforms offer clear protocols for handling a deceased user's assets. This gap poses emotional and logistical challenges for grieving families. To address this, a new initiative called the Digital Legacy Clinic was launched, aimed at helping individuals plan for their digital afterlife and assist families in managing the digital estates of their deceased loved ones.
Unlike physical possessions, online assets often don't pass smoothly from one generation to the next. Loved ones struggle to access important accounts or recover treasured photos.
We realized there was no organization or comprehensive website to help people navigate the technical, privacy, or practical challenges they were facing.
