Amazon is bringing its Starlink alternative to Australia next year
Briefly

Amazon's Project Kuiper will begin supplying satellite internet to rural Australians next year after partnering with the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co) to serve over 300,000 eligible customers by mid-2026. The initiative aims to address connectivity challenges posed by Australia's expansive geography. Project Kuiper currently has launched 78 satellites compared to SpaceX's Starlink, which has over 8,000. While the partnership is significant, Project Kuiper is expected to start service delivery in late 2025, with details on pricing and service locations yet to be announced.
Australia's vast geography presents unique connectivity challenges that traditional infrastructure often can't overcome. This partnership with NBN Co represents our commitment to solving these challenges through innovation and collaboration.
Project Kuiper is barely out of the gate by comparison, with 78 satellites launched to date. Amazon's next launch is scheduled for August 7th as it continues to build a planned constellation of 3,236 satellites.
