A One Piece star commissioned me to make this artwork - here's how I did it
"This commission was created for Pam Dougherty, the English voice actress of Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, from One Piece. I was asked to take inspiration from a scene within the anime where Charlotte goes on a rampage! However, this brief had a unique request. The art was to be created in a style I hadn't used in three years!"
"I even managed to adapt some of what I'd learned from my regular commission style into the creation of this image. In the end, the client was thoroughly satisfied, and I was grateful to have the opportunity to attempt something different and challenging."
A commission depicted Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) inspired by a rampage scene and created for Pam Dougherty's English voice portrayal. The brief required using an art style that had not been used for three years, raising concerns about rustiness and commercial viability. The creator adapted methods from a more recent line-art dependent workflow while retaining muscle-memory skills. Key techniques included using a chalk brush as a smudge tool for hair strands, reflecting the environment in small areas like the eyes, and emphasizing contrast in values, shapes, and movement. The work was produced in Clip Studio Paint and resulted in client satisfaction, with recommendations to use a drawing tablet and a clear process.
