Dell PowerStore Elite delivers 3x the performance and 6:1 data reduction
PowerStore Elite is a redesigned enterprise storage platform delivering up to three times the performance and density of the previous generation. A 3U chassis provides up to 5.8 petabytes of capacity with a 6:1 data reduction guarantee. The platform supports block, file, virtual machine, and container workloads on a single system. Autonomous Data Path intelligence uses machine learning to optimize per I/O operation for both TLC and QLC flash, aiming to make QLC suitable for intensive workloads. Metadata Acceleration improves reads by up to 70% and is available as a software update for existing systems. Log-structured metadata increases capacity and lifespan on high-capacity drives and can apply deduplication to unstructured data. Hardware changes include E3 NVMe low-profile drives, more Intel Xeon Scalable cores, DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen 5, and a 200Gb RDMA node interconnect for load balancing and failover.
"PowerStore Elite is a completely redesigned version of Dell’s enterprise storage platform, delivering up to 3 times the performance and density of the previous generation. The 3U chassis holds up to 5.8 petabytes of data and includes a 6:1 data reduction guarantee. PowerStore Elite is available in three new models: the PowerStore 1500, 5500, and 9500. The platform supports block, file, virtual machine, and container workloads on a single system, with mixed-generation clustering that enables existing PowerStore customers to adopt the new generation without downtime or data migration."
"The performance story starts with software. Dell is introducing Autonomous Data Path intelligence, a machine learning feature that optimizes per I/O operation for both TLC and QLC flash. This is relevant because QLC drives are cheaper but are traditionally considered less suitable for intensive workloads. The new software intelligence is designed to bridge that gap. Also new is Metadata Acceleration, a software update that makes reads up to 70 percent faster for all PowerStore customers."
"Additionally, Dell is introducing log-structured metadata for increased capacity and lifespan on high-capacity drives. It can also apply deduplication to unstructured data, freeing up capacity without impacting performance. Metadata Acceleration is also available via a software update on existing systems, extending the read performance improvements beyond new deployments."
"PowerStore Elite has been completely redesigned at the hardware level. The platform switches to industry-standard E3 NVMe low-profile drives, giving customers more choice and protecting them from the current shortage in the flash market. PowerStore Elite also features up to 50 percent more Intel Xeon Scalable Processor cores than its predecessor, along with DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 5. A new 200Gb RDMA node interconnect is included for improved internal load balancing and failover."
